Cavan Walker had a strong race in Bishopwood last night, read his report below:
59 riders made their way to the circuit in almost wintry conditions, it was 4 degrees C and a strong wind which would be a factor in the result on the night.
There were 4 groups for this handicap road race with the first three groups being set off at 1 min intervals and the scratch having 1 min 15 on the 3rd group. As the groups went through the finish after a lap group 1/ 2 came together and this larger bunch included Cavan and ex Prologue RT rider Rob Watson. The chasing groups 3 and 4 were not making much headway on the fast moving bunch, averaging over 27 mph for the first half of the race.
With a lap to go the scratch group were closing and only has 30 seconds to make up on the front of the race with 6 miles remaining, as the group came round the last corner it looked like they were all together but the scratch riders had not quite made the junction.
Rob Watson lead the sprint from 200 metres and Cav made to get round him on the line to take his second win this season and Prologue RT’s fourth win in a matter of weeks!
