This weekend saw Alex Hutchinson following his win during the week and Matt Williams both taking second place in their respective races, here are their race reports:
Alex Hutchinson – BodyTORQ Fitness Crits
After a stressful journey to the Salt Ayre circuit up at Lancaster, the race started fast. With numerous attempts of a break from different riders nothing stuck and the race was brought back with a few more attacks here and there.
The race was all together with 5 to go when a rider made his move. He gained a decent gap, which I attempted to bridge across to alone, but I saw that I didn’t have the legs to sustain it and was brought back by the bunch with the rider still out front.
The race had slowed and this was until the last lap, where I managed to keep myself in a good position near the front. Coming round the last corner I was third wheel and I started my sprint earlier than I would’ve liked, but managed to grab second on the line into a head wind.
Matt Williams – Alba Rosa CC Summer Series #2
In bright, windy conditions the race started off very cagey with attacks going but being brought straight back. After 30 mins I bridged across to a group of 2 with 20 seconds. The group then lost a rider and was just myself and Jordan Reed (KTM). After another 10 minutes Gavin Taylor (KTM) joined which left me outnumbered.
The group worked well together and with 2 laps to go Jordan Reed attacked. With half a lap to go I managed to bring him back. I then led out the sprint but got beaten on the line by Gavin Taylor.
I was pleased with the result and making the winning move. Being outnumbered by 2 quality riders from the same team was potentially difficult but we worked well together. I’m starting to feel like my form is coming and I’m looking forward to my upcoming races.
