It was a very warm evening at the new Brownlee circuit in Leeds and Alba Rosa were promoting the first night of a summer series run by different local cycling clubs.
It was a rush to get there in time from work but got there with just enough time to sign on and pin a number on! This was my first outing on the circuit but only managed to warm up for half a lap before the start.
It took me a few laps to understand the speed you could take and pedal the corners, at half distance a couple of riders got a small gap but was pretty clear it would result in a frantic bunch sprint.
I managed to position myself in the top few with 3 laps to go and worked hard to stay there. On the last time up the drag a few riders attacked and I followed, I went into the final tight left hand turn in about 5th place and took the corner well to give me some speed to get up to the front three.
I had to use my momentum and lead out the sprint from the final corner, I thought I had the win but was rolled in the final 50 metres by Julian Roche a young rider from All Terrain who took the win with me a close 2nd.
A great new circuit for racing and the night was finished off brilliantly by Tom Wood from the team who won the E123 race in impressive style winning the sprint from a group of four riders.
