DS Matt Mannakee takes second at Keith Carter Memorial

Strong performance from Prologue Team Manager Matt. Read his race report below:

Today was my first race of the season over near Beverley on the Newbald circuit. I woke to a perfect day for racing, the sun was shining and a nice temp.

I had prepared well on a recent training camp in Mallorca and felt I had good legs, Victoria even said this morning I have never seen you so nervous or prepared.

The race was neutralised up the finish climb and started at the line for 6laps (9mile lap). The 1.5mile climb was where the race would ignite each lap, I found myself in a break of 7 on lap2 but it was back together before the climb for the third time.

With two laps remaining there was a big split in the bunch with half the remaining bunch distanced. The front group wasn’t really riding and it almost came back together, but the final ascent of the climb reduced the front to just 15riders.

On the decent to Newbald two riders attacked and got a gap including Julian Pearce from FTR. I made sure I was well positioned throughout the final lap and hit the base of the climb in the top6 riders in the bunch.

We caught Pearce on the lower slopes with just one rider with 15secs advantage with a mile to go. I sat on Andy Cunningham (All Terrain) as he banged out a fierce tempo and we were closing the gap. Jamie Tweddell attacked with about 600m to go but on the climb with wind was a tad early, Cunningham went hard and I managed to hold his wheel and as he dropped his head on the limit I jumped with 250m to go and held the gap to take second.

A good start to the season, Dylan managed 9th in Out The Saddle RR, missed the move but took the bunch sprint.
