Adam Varley is smashing Strava segments on his new R5, read his review here.
I’d describe myself as an enthusiastic amateur…enjoying both solo rides and social coffee rides. I tend to set off on most rides on the basis of it being a “steady ride” and then get caught up pressing the pace attempting to hit a goal, whether it be average speed, PB up a hill or a Strava live section!
I’ve always had my eye on a Cervelo. I love the classic lines of frameset, but like the idea that they are really pressing technology and techniques.
Adam decided to customise his R5 by adding Fizik finishing kit, Dura Ace 9000 and some Mavic R-sys wheels, these upgrades transformed the bike into an immense climbing machine. The Strava trophies summarises the bikes abilities on the flats; “I’m yet to ride it on its natural grounds, the hills, but I don’t think that I will have many excuses for not getting up them fast enough as its light, UCI illegally light….”
The R5 has been meticulously developed with weight and speed in mind, which has resulted in an incredibly balanced frame. This was totally different to anything Adam has ever owned, feeling like it can keep up with the fastest aero bikes on the flats, Adam is looking forward to testing it on the hills in the Dales.
Adam advises people not to hesitate when considering a Cervelo “they are awesome bikes and you wont regret it. It does everything I could of hoped for and more.. I love how the classic detail of the frame hasn’t been lost with the engineering of the bike, the pencil thin seat stays really sets the bike apart.” Adam is toying with the idea of taking part in the Etap de Tour again, the R5 would make the perfect machine to tackle the event.
