Colnago fanatic Dan trades in his classic for a shiny new limited edition Colnago C60 Gran Fondo. Read his review on this amazing machine.
“I’ve been visiting Prologue for a while as they have the best selection of top bike brands. John has been keeping an eye out for me for something a little different. The bike is a limited edition. It’s one of only 21 to be made by Colnago. I had to wait eight weeks for it.”
On ordering, Dan spent the next two months researching components for his bike build and plotting additions to the Colnago with the Prologue team. “We added a new carbon handlebar and some Campagnolo Ultra Bora 50 wheels.”
The Colnago C60 is handmade in Italy under Colnago’s meticulous manufacturing process. It’s the tradition and craftsmanship Dan originally fell in love with. “I loved my old bike, a classic Colnago dream, so it made sense to keep in the Colnago family and upgrade.”
Dan’s new Colnago C60 tubes and lugs provide greater stiffness and resistance to bending. The rear dropouts have also been completely redesigned to reduce weight and achieve greater lateral stiffness. The tubes are larger especially where they join the bottom bracket lug and end of the seat tube for improved stiffness. Colnago also invented a new and improved bottom bracket to allow for this increase in tube width.
Dan required a racy bike for short, fast-paced training rides but something he’d also be comfortable riding when taking part in long-distance events. “I usually ride three times a week to keep fit as well as training for a couple of sportives I take part in each year.” Cyclist magazine calls the C60: “A top-level race rig. It’s incredibly comfortable yet also very stiff.
The construction technique used in the C60 offers an unprecedented range of sizes; nine sloping and five horizontal, with custom sizing also an option.
“The buying process was really simple and the customer service was great. Pop in and talk to the team, they are all really knowledgeable about the brands they stock and if they don’t have something they can get it in pretty quickly.”
When Dan took his new Colnago C60 for a spin he discovered new speeds even under tough conditions. “My first ride was a 30 miler on my local routes to compare the difference between it and the old bike. It was cold and windy but even with those conditions the average speed was up.”
As an avid Colnago fan Dan’s first big plan for the new limited edition bike is to showcase it at the Colnago Festival next year. “In the short term I’m going to enjoy riding it and keeping fit.”
