Prologue launch Bianchi

We are delighted to announce that we are now an official dealer for the legendary Italian bike brand Bianchi.

Bianchi is the oldest bicycle firm in the world still in existance today. Founded in Milan by Edoardo Bianchi back in 1885 the company and their bikes are synonomous with Italian cycling heritage and engineering excellence. More so than any other manufacturer Bianchi bikes are instantly recognisable from one pale turquoise colour, known as Celeste, which is included to some extent on all their models.

Bianchi sponsored their first Pro rider Giovanni Thommasello in 1899 and within fifteen years the company was producing 45,000 bikes a year as well as 1000 cars and 1500 motorbikes. By 1935 Bianch was selling 70,000 bikes a year.

The company lead the way in cycling technology by being the first to use a derailleur gear system on a bicycle. The Cambio Corsa system was designed by Campagnolo and comprised a simple rod operated derailleur mounted on the seat stay to select one of four available sprockets.

Sporting success has never been far from the Bianchi brand with Fausto Coppi signing for the company in 1940 before going on to be the first ever rider to win the Giro D’Italia/Tour de France double in the same year, cementing the brand and himself in history. Other greats associated with Bianchi are Felice Gimondi, Laurent Fignon, Gianni Bugno and Marco Pantani, who rode his custom aluminium Mega Pro XL Reparto Corse to a famous Giro/Tour double victory in 1998. Pantani was the last rider to win the Tour on an aluminium frame.

The distinctive celeste colour can still be seen in the pro peleton today ridden by dutch world tour team Lotto NL Jumbo. The team ride three different road models from the range – the ultra light Specialissima, the high level aero Oltre XR4 and for the cobbled classics the Infinto CV. The ‘CV’ or Countervail technology found exclusively in a number of Bianchi models is a patented vibration cancelling system integrated into the architecture of the fibres and the viscoelastic resins used in the frame’s production and cancels 80% of vibrations.

Other popular models within the range include the Oltre XR3 and Aria aero bikes and the Intenso endurance model. Prices range from £1,750 for the entry level carbon bike up to £12,999 for the range topping Specialissima model.

We have a wide range of Bianchi models in stock including a number of demo bikes to try so why not call in and experience these beautiful bikes for yourself.
